an epidural gone wrong...

Yesterday I was quite emotional after reading in the local paper about a poor mum who was accidentally injected with antiseptic instead of anaesthetic for the epidural during her labour...you can read more here. I went to tell D because he had nearly 20+ doses of chemo into his spine to kill off any Leukaemic cells lurking in there...I remember the sadness every time they had to do it, I remember how it became harder to get the needle in as it became more & more scarred in that area. I remember once the Dr accidentally did something wrong & splashed some of the antiseptic into his face as D sat terrified that his spinal fluid was spurting out (which seems funny now, but was scary at the time). I remember he heard that someone "somewhere" was accidentally injected with the wrong drug & died because the body couldn't deal with those toxins. He used to joke with the staff to try to gee himself up & make a joke like "I hope you don't inject the wrong thing" - then he realised St George was where it happened, then he realised why everyone was quiet...uggg.

I sat wanting to send this mother our love...she must be in so much pain, she must be heartbroken! Imagine going in to have a baby & months later be able to move, unable to sit up, unable to feed, hold or care for your baby. It's such a devastating story...praying that her little boy is still able to feel her love, & praying that somehow her body is able to flush out those toxins...it's just too horrible to contemplate...

Hippity Hooray it's...

FRIDAY. How I love Fridays!!
There will be no cooking for Mum, uniforms in the wash & ironed & put away for the weekend. Friday night SYTYCD & Footy, baths & snuggly jammies.
My bones are starting to thaw out at Spring quickly approaches! HOORAY!
And wonderful news: D's check up at the hospital yesterday went really really well. His bone marrow is making some good stuff. Despite the ongoing issues - which seem extremely frustrating for us - for the Drs, he is never "as bad" as some others & they want to keep him off drugs (immune suppressants & steroids) as much as possible. I never expect a negative report, but my throat felt very tight - a physical reaction to the fact that he was back there being tested perhaps. Though in my mind I didn't think I was worried, my physical body was.
And D was able to bump into our lovely friend Geraldine who has just had sweet baby Matilda, & now has to prepare for her own BMT! I want to pray for her & her family so much...when I feel like complaining about life I don't have to look far before I feel ashamed of my lack of appreciation for the thousands of blessings around me!

THE LETER OF THE DAY...

Part One:
The Letter P

Sesame Street has A LOT to answer for.

Today Eric came out into the kitchen & told me that the letter of the day was P.
I smiled & said "That's lovely darling!"
Then he told me that the word POO starts with the letter P.
"Yes sweetie, that is correct." Rolling my eyes!!
I have birthed an evil genius. If only I can channel his talents to good...

I also suggested that was perhaps something not to share at Prep next year...

This morning Bonnie was asking me how babies were made...oi vey...she's only 7.

Some days are just like this...unfortunately they don't tell you about this in the "baby books"!

Part Two:
Brotherly love

Yesterday the kids were playing outside & I had come in to check on sick husband flat out in bed with horrific back pain. Miss B came running in "Mum, something just bit me on the hand."
I'm thinking - ant, bee, redback spider...
WHAT? WHAT BIT YOU, SHOW ME QUICKLY...

I get outside & there is a poor little skink lizard laying dazed/concussed on the ground having been pounded by Eric the Brave, trying to protect his sister from the biting monster...
I said "Bonnie, lizards don't just BITE people, what were you doing?"
"Er, nuuuttthhhinnggg..."
Yeah right...
Poor little creature, set upon by my children...

I had to laugh though...at my fear, & at Eric sticking up for his sister...

Sigh. Before I had kids I thought I would be an excellent mum. Now that I'm a mum I realise how little I know
