Something I dig...

My very own little Superhero got the DVDs of Superman 1 & 2 for his birthday which we have all been really getting into.

Christopher Reeve was simply THE ultimate best Superman ever - no discussion. Don't you love heros?

It is also one of my all time favourite movie themes. Standing ovation for John Williams! (We have the soundtrack which we used for seniors in aural lessons so we cranked that up on the weekend too - especially the brass lines coming into the end of the main theme. If that doesn't make the hairs on the neck stand up nothing will...)

I'm not even going to comment on the horse riding accident because it's just too sad...

Regrets

Well, D & I have finally come to the realisation that we made a very bad purchase...absolutely NOTHING wrong with the product - only with our health. The item in question is this awesome bed from Bunkers, but between D's recovery from Leukaemia & my osteoporosis & sore joints...it's just getting too hard to make. What a great space saving idea though - & it's just so solid. Been looking around eBay to see if others have been able to sell them. I think it's just time for me to admit that it has to go. Sigh...

A dream come true...

THEY FINALLY MADE IT!!! (After D was ill with Leukaemia, Eric started praying every night that "Daddy would get better so we could go on a train to the city..." then the dream got bigger & the Aquarium, Monorail & Centerpoint Tower were added.)

SO happy for them both that on Eric's 5th birthday they were able to make that memory together...

...sometimes dreams do come true...but it still makes me teary to think that some nights I used to wonder if it ever would...

At the dinner table tonight Eric told us that he loves his family & he loves himself too. What a great outlook for life - if only we could keep that positive spirit into adulthood...I guess the cares of life can crowd out the important things sometimes. Cancer, death, hardships & just the day to day pressing forward can make us lose that sort of attitude...but how wonderful to be reminded by Eric tonight that love & family - the simple act of sitting together to eat a meal - is so special! (Not to make light of the hardships of life of course, especially as one who has been through many of those hard times. Sometimes you can hardly put one foot in front of the other I know...yet to be loved...& know it & be secure in it - what wonderful satisfaction we can have in that!)

Pensive Ric...

Nanny just send me this photo of "pensive Ric".

Can't believe my tiny baby was born 5 years ago tomorrow (Monday). Today we spent some time with Nanny & Pop & he got to wear the 'birthday hat', we blew out candles & we had a lovely simple lunch of chicken & salad & bread rolls. My little wee one is growing up before my eyes.

He is full of all kinds of funny sayings. When he is trying to tell me something is happening next week he'll say "yesterday, the next day"...he is loving Prep, he loves numbers, he tries to answer his sister's Year 2 mental homework, he loves mud, & mess, he loves jumping castles, he loves playing with the boys especially "Jacob-my-friend" - which is what he ALWAYS calls him (lol) - his best mate, he loves watching footy with Dad, he loves skeletons & superheros & lego & funny shows & all kinds of "boy" things - which are so fascinating to Mum, having watched no boys growing up!! It is such a joy listening to his tales, watching his boundless energy & his love of all things "boy", without needing guidance he gravitates towards jumping castles & cars & balls & sport etc. It's such a joy watching him sit with D, looking up at him with adoration in his eyes, or that intense wonder at trying to learn what it is to be male...hooray for little boys!

Tomorrow - fingers crossed - Eric goes to Sydney aquarium with his Dad. When D was ill in hospital Eric used to pray at bedtime that one day he could go on a train to the city & go to the aquarium with Dad. It's been cancelled about 9 times to date for various reasons so I really hope they get to go tomorrow.

Bonnie has been a bit narky & has seems to have a large amount of complaints today. This afternoon she's been snuggled up in a blanket. Nan & Pop just left to go home & I felt her forehead - HOT HOT HOT. She's running a temp the poor little thing. She's been so weary today - NO WONDER!!!!!!!! I'll keep her home tomorrow - much to her delight! (Much to my horror after planning a free day.) But that is what being a mum is about...loving kids through their hard days & the good. So Eric turns 5 & goes into the city with Dad, I'll be here nursing Miss Sickie. How I love them all...

Lost In Austen

Big romantic sigh...this pushed ALL my buttons. I've loved Pride & Prejudice since studying it in Year 12. I read a book last year about someone who travels back in time to visit that era - that's what I thought this show was based on, but it was quite different. How lovely to see something to make me all smiley on a Sunday night...it was nice to iron uniforms while listening to a C20th gal reprimand Darcy. Standing ovation for the makers of the show - the big Lissy tick of approval!

My what in intellectual Blog I write...

Lucy's journey...

"My name is Lucy. I am in recovery from anorexia nervosa and major depression, each of which almost killed me."

I just read Biting Back by Lucy Howard-Taylor. I don't pretend to have my head around anorexia now, but it was certainly eye opening reading. (I was in contact with an ex-student who has been battling with the disease recently & saw this book in the Library. I remember seeing Lucy on a morning news show & thought she was such an intelligent delightful woman, I couldn't imagine her battling such a horrific problem.)

I hate that there are such horrible things in our world...

I hate that whooping cough is raging in this area & D & I have weak immune systems...

Looking forward to our weekend...

P.S. The book that Eric borrowed from the Library was about a Grandma with purple hair who learns Judo!! It must have appealed to him.

Life...

Goodness, life just ticks along doesn't it - whether you feel ready for it to or not!?

Miss Bonnie is getting a merit award this morning. I am not going up to school to get photos, but I am so proud of her. I think it's probably for saying her poem Monday morning. (Her class has to learn a poem to share this week - instead of just showing toys for new etc, they had to learn a poem, & since they are studying AA Milne at the moment she learnt "Halfway Down". Friday afternoon they were watching an old DVD of the Muppets & Kermit's nephew was sitting on some stairs singing the song & I went "Wow Bon, THAT is a poem from your special Winnie books - you could share that !" She got all excited & practiced ALL weekend.) I was so proud. She's a bit of a swat - she likes to do her homework early & be organised!! (How unlike her mother?)

Eric has his first visit to the school library with his own little library bag today. I mean we visit the local library quite often but he was so excited about going with his class!!! I went in to help out in his Prep class last week for Nursery Rhyme Dress Up Day! Boy o boy those teachers work hard. The day went soooooo fast, but was non stop. Eric went as pat-a-cake bakers man with a little chef hat!! The kids all looked awesome & it was lovely to meet some of them. Some are VERY young & I can't imagine them all being ready for Kindy next year. I think Eric will be. (Apparently yesterday when he arrived he wanted to sing a song to the teachers! I sit here rolling my eyes with my chest puffed out...

I have laid traps, I have laid POISON & I haven't seen a mouse for days. I feel so bad doing that but they really are naughty getting into my pantry & nibbling stuff, so they have to go!

Well, my plan is to get a cuppa & get back into bed with a book...while it's QUIET...

So much has been happening here...but most of that at another time...
